The Holidays in Door County

Reindeer in Ephraim!

Reindeer in Ephraim!

Christmas in the Village was this past Saturday and it’s looking to be a fun tradition for Door County!  Even more Christmas decorations are up around the peninsula and the shopping has definitely begun.
Keep Door County in mind for your Christmas shopping this year!  The shops in the area have great unique items, special deals and of course beautiful surroundings.  Plus with the shop local initiatives there are even better deals to be had!
We would love to have you join us at High Point Inn for your holiday shopping (and a little relaxation too)!

Eagle Harbor in Historic Ephraim

Here at High Point Inn we are a short drive from Eagle Harbor.  This particular harbor offers beautiful sunsets, a view of Peninsula State Park across the way, and a great place to stroll and listen to the waves. Although the December temperatures are approaching this is still a great place to visit.

One of the reasons this is such a great time to see Eagle Harbor is there have been swan sightings recently.  The swans just enhance the beauty of the water and the surrounding shore.

While taking in these great views of Eagle Harbor there are a few great places to stop and warm up.  There is a quaint coffee shop in town called Leroy’s located in the Water Street Shops.  If you are looking to grab a bite to eat The Chef’s Hat is also open offering breakfast, lunch and dinner.  There are also some shops open for browsing and perhaps getting some of that holiday shopping taken care of.

Believe it or not this is a great time to visit Door County!  It may be quiet but the nature of the Door Peninsula is great year round!

It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas in Door County!

Although the feeling of Thanksgiving is still lingering on the Door Peninsula, Christmas is in the air!

As we’re still recovering from that Thanksgiving feast, Christmas lights and trees have been put up in towns and The Lodge (106.9) has started playing classic Christmas songs!  Here at High Point Inn we have our own decorations up and families are gathered in the lobby by the warm fireplace.

This is a great time to take advantage of our after Thanksgiving special and get into the spirit a little early!  Here in Door County there are local shops open with great holiday specials, cozy coffee shops to take a relaxing break at and pretty lights to see as you drive along the quiet roads.

Next weekend Ephraim even has its own Christmas celebration (reindeers and all)!  Come join us to get into that holiday spirit and find a little relaxation along the way!

Welcoming November on the Door Peninsula

We have now entered into the month of November and the change is obvious here in Door County.  The streets have quieted down and the air is crisp and cool.  The mornings are even welcoming us with a dense covering of frost that makes everything sparkle.

This is the perfect time of year to take a long drive to the northern part of the peninsula.  The colors may have faded, and the leaves may have fallen but the views are still spectacular.  In fact, with the leaves now gone from the trees the landscape appears more open and the view is extended.

This is also a great time to get some holiday shopping done in a nice relaxing atmosphere.  The air may be crisp but it is still pleasant to stroll along the sidewalks and check out all your favorite shops.  Just a short walk from High Point Inn are The Shops of Green Gables along with The Blue Dolphin House and The Rusty Rabbit.  Even more shops are just a short drive into Fish Creek or Sister Bay.

Come join us this November! Make sure to check out the upcoming events at www.doorcounty.com!   Also feel free to contact us here at High Point Inn!

What to do on a cool fall day in Door County

Door County is a great place for both fun and relaxation.  Here are a few ideas of how to enjoy a cool fall day on the Door Peninsula.

1) Start the day off right with a trip to one of the local coffee shops.  There are great options in every town!  In Ephraim there is Leroy’s, in Sister Bay there is Base Camp and Drink Coffee, in Baileys Harbor there is Espresso Lane and The Blue Horse in Fish Creek.

2) Go antiquing, finding hidden treasures in the fall is especially fun!

3) Take a hike or a bike ride through the state park of your choice.  This is a good way to warm up and soak up the great autumn air.

4) Enjoy a nice relaxing sit down meal at one of the many great restaurants

5) Take in a sunset to see the fall colors at their best.  As the sun goes down you can see the trees in a different light, just make sure to bring an extra layer because once the sun has set it gets chilly!

6) Cozy up for the rest of the evening!  At High Point Inn you can sit by the fireplace or take a nice soak in the hot tub.

No matter what you do make sure to enjoy all the beauties of autumn in Door County this year; the weather has made it amazing!

Door County Apples are here!

Door County apples are ripening early this year, just like the cherries did earlier in the season.  With apples now in season all I can think of is a nice warm apple pie and caramel apples.  It is true that the fall season has not quite started for us here on the Door Peninsula, but with the cooler air that has just moved in it is hard not to think about all those yummy fall treats.

Most of the local orchards offer both fresh apples and bakery items made from them.  For example, Seaquist Orchards in Ellison Bay offers a great assortment of apples along with many other goodies.  The local farmer’s markets will also have an assortment of apples from smaller growers.

This cooler weather is perfect for baking, which coincides well with the early arrival of apples!  At High Point Inn you can make a pie in your room or simply warm one up from a local bakery.  We even have some extra cinnamon if you need to borrow some!

Welcoming September in Door County

The Door Peninsula has now officially entered into September.  The roads have quieted down and the air has a lighter quality to it.  It is a beautiful time of year to be sure.  There are many ways to enjoy Door County in September, so here are a few tips.

1) Make sure to visit the state parks.  This time of year the parks are beautiful and they are slightly more peaceful.  It is a great time to take a relaxing bike ride or go for a nice hike.

2) Make a point to go see a play.  American Folklore Theater and Peninsula Players both offer great entertainment. Both locations have indoor performance areas, which is great for one of the cooler evenings.

3) Visit all your favorite shops (or discover your favorite shop).  It’s a great time to browse and take your time without having to deal with big crowds.

4) RELAX! The great part about September is there is no need to rush!

We would love to have you come stay with us at High Point Inn this September, we will try to make it as relaxing as possible for you!

A Taste of Door County

Door County has its own unique flavor, and one of the best ways to experience this is to visit the local farmers market.  On Saturdays in Sister Bay at the Corner of the Past Museum there is a farmers market where locals are able to sell produce and other fresh items.

The farmers market is a great way to see what is grown on the Door Peninsula, and to meet some local residents.  The Farmers Market also has featured guests.  This weekend Jeanne Aurelius of Clay Bay Pottery will be there and the following weekend there will be Native American flutes with Mike Farmer.

Once you have some local produce you can come back and relax at High Point Inn and cook up a nice meal in your kitchen, then enjoy the flavors on your own private patio!
