Although peak color has past, the beauties of fall still remain on the Door Peninsula. The leaves have fallen in great numbers but they are still full of color on the ground, creating decorated pathways for hiking and biking. The autumn aroma of dry leaves and fresh air is even stronger and there are still quite a few trees with colorful leaves still holding on.
This time of year is simply peaceful and gorgeous in Door County. The festivals have passed leaving a quiet peninsula perfect for a relaxing visit.
This year has been an especially great fall season; the weather has been perfect and there have been plenty of friendly faces. It’s not too late to join us at High Point Inn for the fall season!

Door County has a great variety of State Parks that offer a number of fun outdoor activities. They vary in landscapes and offer nature centers full of information pertaining to the parks. There are also great nature preserves on the Door Peninsula that are often overlooked. The Ridges Sanctuary is one of these preserves.
The Ridges offer 5 miles of hiking trails in a beautiful setting. Just the other day I made it out on a hike there and could not believe it had taken me so long to get out there. It was a very relaxing trip and also very interesting. The land is unique and has swales that look like small rivers along with varying terrain.
The Ridges is a great year round non-profit organization with group outings, a fun nature center and events for the whole family. Make sure to take the time to check out this great place next time you’re in Door County! Just by visiting these preserves you are helping to keep the Door Peninsula the way it is.
High Point Inn is a short drive to all these great natural markers, and they are open year round! Come join us for hiking, biking, skiing or snowshoeing!

Door County is a great place to visit for all seasons, although with the changing weather there is a change in available activities. At this time of year many of the summer activities are still up and running! Here are a few fun evening activities that might be a bit chilly but still lots of fun!
1) Visit the Skyway drive-in theatre! The drive in is still showing movies on the weekends. Just remember blankets and cozy up for a double feature!
2) Go mini golfing! The Red Putter, Johnson’s Park and Pirate’s Cove offer fun courses for all.
3) Have a quick bite to eat at the Cookery Wine Bar (or your favorite outdoor eatery) and sit on the outside deck looking over the water. It might be a bit chilly but you can warm up with some wine and appetizers!
After you’ve had your share of chilly outdoor adventures there are plenty of ways to warm up. At High Point Inn you can warm up by a nice fireplace or sit in the relaxing whirlpool! Whether you feel like braving the cold or not, this is a great time to visit us on the Door Peninsula.

The leaves are slowly starting to change their tint along the roadways on the Door Peninsula. It is a great contrast to the leaves and grass that are holding onto their green color. This is a sure sign of the approaching fall and the many contrasting colors that will be arriving with it.
Right now in Door County the air has been light and cool with a slight breeze. The waters of Lake Michigan have been bright blue and sparkling in the sun with small waves rolling in. This is a beautiful time for the peninsula; the sun is still able to keep you warm while the air is light and refreshing!
It’s important to note that the leaves have already started to turn and that means peak season for colors is approaching fast. They are predicting that peak will be in the first part of October. Seeing Door County in the fall at peak color is amazing, don’t miss it!
We would be glad to have you stay with us at High Point Inn for the fall season. The grounds have trees all around and offer patios where you can sit out and enjoy the view. Then, of course, there is the fireplace to warm up by after taking in the cool fall air!

Door County apples are ripening early this year, just like the cherries did earlier in the season. With apples now in season all I can think of is a nice warm apple pie and caramel apples. It is true that the fall season has not quite started for us here on the Door Peninsula, but with the cooler air that has just moved in it is hard not to think about all those yummy fall treats.
Most of the local orchards offer both fresh apples and bakery items made from them. For example, Seaquist Orchards in Ellison Bay offers a great assortment of apples along with many other goodies. The local farmer’s markets will also have an assortment of apples from smaller growers.
This cooler weather is perfect for baking, which coincides well with the early arrival of apples! At High Point Inn you can make a pie in your room or simply warm one up from a local bakery. We even have some extra cinnamon if you need to borrow some!
