It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas in Door County!

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Although the feeling of Thanksgiving is still lingering on the Door Peninsula, Christmas is in the air!

As we’re still recovering from that Thanksgiving feast, Christmas lights and trees have been put up in towns and The Lodge (106.9) has started playing classic Christmas songs!  Here at High Point Inn we have our own decorations up and families are gathered in the lobby by the warm fireplace.

This is a great time to take advantage of our after Thanksgiving special and get into the spirit a little early!  Here in Door County there are local shops open with great holiday specials, cozy coffee shops to take a relaxing break at and pretty lights to see as you drive along the quiet roads.

Next weekend Ephraim even has its own Christmas celebration (reindeers and all)!  Come join us to get into that holiday spirit and find a little relaxation along the way!

Sunshine Over the Door Peninsula

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

We are nearing the middle of November and have been enjoying some great weather here in Door County!  The sun has been shining and the temperatures have actually been in the 50′s.   The warmer temperatures probably wont last much longer so make sure to take advantage!

It looks like Friday won’t be one of our better days in relation to weather, but the county still has some great events that wont require you to face mother nature!

At Door Community Auditorium on Friday the high school is putting on an encore performance of Seussical the Musical. They were selected to perform for a special theatre showcase the following weekend so they bought the show back.  It is a fun show, now with new choreography and a few more finishing touches.  Then on Saturday Peninsula School of Art has a new exhibit starting called “The Value of Black and White”.

It is not too late to come stay with us at High Point Inn this weekend.  It is a nice quiet time to come, but there is still plenty to do!

The First Glimpse of Snow in Door County!

Friday, November 5th, 2010

The fireplace is on here in the lobby of High Point Inn while outside the first snow of the season is falling!  This is an exciting time for most in Door County.  The ground is just dusted with the bright white snow and although it probably won”t last long it is our first taste of the coming winter!

There are many ways to warm up here this weekend!  Visit the shops and art galleries, and have a warm cup of soup at your favorite cafe. There is also the Jacksonport Firefighters Association Benefit dance where you can support the local firefighters and listen to great live music.  Of course it’s ok to just sit by the fireplace and relax too!

Welcoming November on the Door Peninsula

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

We have now entered into the month of November and the change is obvious here in Door County.  The streets have quieted down and the air is crisp and cool.  The mornings are even welcoming us with a dense covering of frost that makes everything sparkle.

This is the perfect time of year to take a long drive to the northern part of the peninsula.  The colors may have faded, and the leaves may have fallen but the views are still spectacular.  In fact, with the leaves now gone from the trees the landscape appears more open and the view is extended.

This is also a great time to get some holiday shopping done in a nice relaxing atmosphere.  The air may be crisp but it is still pleasant to stroll along the sidewalks and check out all your favorite shops.  Just a short walk from High Point Inn are The Shops of Green Gables along with The Blue Dolphin House and The Rusty Rabbit.  Even more shops are just a short drive into Fish Creek or Sister Bay.

Come join us this November! Make sure to check out the upcoming events at www.doorcounty.com!   Also feel free to contact us here at High Point Inn!

What to do on a cool fall day in Door County

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Door County is a great place for both fun and relaxation.  Here are a few ideas of how to enjoy a cool fall day on the Door Peninsula.

1) Start the day off right with a trip to one of the local coffee shops.  There are great options in every town!  In Ephraim there is Leroy’s, in Sister Bay there is Base Camp and Drink Coffee, in Baileys Harbor there is Espresso Lane and The Blue Horse in Fish Creek.

2) Go antiquing, finding hidden treasures in the fall is especially fun!

3) Take a hike or a bike ride through the state park of your choice.  This is a good way to warm up and soak up the great autumn air.

4) Enjoy a nice relaxing sit down meal at one of the many great restaurants

5) Take in a sunset to see the fall colors at their best.  As the sun goes down you can see the trees in a different light, just make sure to bring an extra layer because once the sun has set it gets chilly!

6) Cozy up for the rest of the evening!  At High Point Inn you can sit by the fireplace or take a nice soak in the hot tub.

No matter what you do make sure to enjoy all the beauties of autumn in Door County this year; the weather has made it amazing!

A Closer Look at the Nature of Door County: a visit to The Ridges Sanctuary

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Door County has a great variety of State Parks that offer a number of fun outdoor activities.  They vary in landscapes and offer nature centers full of information pertaining to the parks.  There are also great nature preserves on the Door Peninsula that are often overlooked.  The Ridges Sanctuary is one of these preserves.

The Ridges offer 5 miles of hiking trails in a beautiful setting.  Just the other day I made it out on a hike there and could not believe it had taken me so long to get out there.  It was a very relaxing trip and also very interesting.  The land is unique and has swales that look like small rivers along with varying terrain.

The Ridges is a great year round non-profit organization with group outings, a fun nature center and events for the whole family.  Make sure to take the time to check out this great place next time you’re in Door County!  Just by visiting these preserves you are helping to keep the Door Peninsula the way it is.

High Point Inn is a short drive to all these great natural markers, and they are open year round!  Come join us for hiking, biking, skiing or snowshoeing!

A Pleasant Outlook : it’s looking like a great weekend for Pumpkin Patch in Door County!

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

The weekend is fast approaching and the weather has been beautiful!  The sun has been shining on the Door Peninsula revealing all the beautiful new colors and shimmering on the waters of Lake Michigan.  It looks like this should continue into the weekend, which will be great for Pumpkin Patch in Egg Harbor!

Egg Harbor will have plenty of events for the whole family.  It is the perfect time to get your fall treats and to take in the fall air.  Once you’ve had enough of the crowds you can then tour some of the scenic back roads and travel to the northern part of the peninsula to take it all in.

If you are joining us in Door County for this beautiful weekend make sure to bring layers!  The days have been nice and warm in the sun but the cool fall air still takes over at night.  At High Point Inn we are excited for the weekend, we have the apple cider hot and the apples fresh from the orchard!
