Shorts in winter in Sister Bay (short films that is)

Looking for something different to do this Valentine’s Day? Check out the fifth annual Door County Short Film Festival in the Sister Bay Village Hall (10693 N. Bay Shore Drive), Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15. This year the DCSFF will premiere 18 short films from three countries.

Four films will be shown Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall, followed by discussion with the filmmakers in the Hall. Meet the filmmakers at the after-party hosted at the Sister Bay Bowl.

Dust off your acting skills and come to the free acting workshop led by Amy Ludwigsen and Ed DiMaio, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, February 15 in the Village Hall. Another free workshop is offered from 3-5 p.m. inside the Northern Grill restaurant, Lloyd Michalsen, on the art of storytelling.

Come to the Sister Bay Village Hall (10693 N. Bay Shore Drive) Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the premiere of 14 short films. Possibly the BEST POPCORN YOU WILL EVER EAT will be available, along with other beverages and goodies from the makers of Tapuat kombucha (coffee, water and Tapuat’s excellent kombucha). Bring something soft to sit on to make your movie watching experience more enjoyable.

Audience members will be asked to vote on their favorite film. The film with the most votes will receive the coveted 2014 Golden Coffee Mug, handcrafted by a local artist. The after-party will be hosted at Husby’s Food & Spirits.

Tickets for each night are $5 per person. All money goes into the D.C. Short Film Fest fund for next year.

Dreaming of a Door County Spring at the High Point Inn

Greetings, Libbi here, a jolly employee at the High Point Inn. I’ve been rockin’ the HPI going on two years now.  This being only my second winter working in Door County, I’ve had to be a bit more patient for spring to arrive this year compared to the enjoyably mild winter I experienced last year.  To help encourage spring time at the High Point Inn, I drew flowers in the snow banks hugging our walkways for our guests and arriving employees to enjoy.  I can’t wait for the abundance of real flowers that color the outside of the High Point Inn to emerge from our slowly shrinking piles of white, truly putting an end to this never ending winter.

Are you also experiencing spring fever? Call and make a reservation to enjoy our great Spring Awakening Special today!

Call 800-595-6894  or email info@highpintinn.com for pricing and some restrictions may apply.

The late fall season is calling you to Door County!

Cave Point County Park is a great place to find evidence of the Niagara Escarpment

There are so many reasons to come to Door County in the late fall. Let’s start with the beautiful great outdoors. Check these 3 important facts:

1) Door County has 298 miles of shoreline.
2) Door County is home to part of the limestone, geographical amazing-ness of the Niagara Escarpment – visible on both shores of the peninsula.
3 Door County has amazing state and county parks for you to enjoy all year long.

And check out this historic fact from Wikipedia.org on the origin of one of our favorite hangouts, Peninsula State Park:

A Civilian Conservation Corps camp was established at Peninsula State Park during the Great Depression. In the summer of 1945, Fish Creek was the site of a German POW camp, under an affiliation with a base camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.[4] The prisoners engaged in construction projects, cut wood, and picked cherries in Peninsula State Park and the surrounding area.

The bottom line is that Door County has lots of nature to share with our visitors. And what better place to discover our late fall beauty that from a spacious luxury suite at the High Point Inn in Ephraim. Check out our specials, choose your favorite and book your suite. The staff at the High Point Inn will help you create a Door County getaway that you will remember.
