Looking for something different to do this Valentine’s Day? Check out the fifth annual Door County Short Film Festival in the Sister Bay Village Hall (10693 N. Bay Shore Drive), Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15. This year the DCSFF will premiere 18 short films from three countries.

Four films will be shown Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall, followed by discussion with the filmmakers in the Hall. Meet the filmmakers at the after-party hosted at the Sister Bay Bowl.

Dust off your acting skills and come to the free acting workshop led by Amy Ludwigsen and Ed DiMaio, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, February 15 in the Village Hall. Another free workshop is offered from 3-5 p.m. inside the Northern Grill restaurant, Lloyd Michalsen, on the art of storytelling.

Come to the Sister Bay Village Hall (10693 N. Bay Shore Drive) Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the premiere of 14 short films. Possibly the BEST POPCORN YOU WILL EVER EAT will be available, along with other beverages and goodies from the makers of Tapuat kombucha (coffee, water and Tapuat’s excellent kombucha). Audience members will be asked to vote on their favorite film. The film with the most votes will receive the coveted 2014 Golden Coffee Mug, handcrafted by a local artist. The after-party will be hosted at Husby’s Food & Spirits.

Tickets for each night are $5 per person. All money goes into the D.C. Short Film Fest fund for next year.

The Door County Short Film Fest is a grassroots, community-driven event with the goals of: encouraging the creation of moviemaking; establishing and hosting a winter event in northern Door County; entertaining and benefitting residents, visitors and businesses.

Active activities at Fyr Bal

fyr bal (600 x 857)

Ephraim’s 49th annual Fyr Bal festival is this coming weekend, the 14th thru the 16th.  This year’s schedule of events contains new activities to the shore of Eagle Harbor.  Of course the main event of the weekend is the tradition bonfires lining the shores of Eagle Harbor (official lighting begins at 8:30) and the fireworks to comence after sunset (approximately 9:30), which are both a definate must see. But here are some other activities I’m excited to see on the schedule, and I think are worth checking out:

-Guided hikes at Anderson pond nature preserve.  I recently learned the location of Anderson pond and think it’s a little gem hidden in Ephraim that not many people are aware of.

-Stand up paddle board races at the Ephraim Kayak Center, located on South Shore Pier.  This is my favorite water sport, and the crew at the kayak center are super friendly and helpful getting you on on of these things! Be sure to partake in this excellent activity.

sup (800 x 602)

-High Point Inn is happy to sponsor a groovy line-up of live music occuring both at the village hall and harbor side park all day long on Saturday.

-Anytime on Saturday walk next door to Red Putter for a round of mini-golf for a special fyr bal rate!

-Free Body Flow and Zumba classes at Anderson Dock.  For the early active risers, registration is at 7:15 a.m. Enjoy a fun class and a great view of the harbor.

Hitch a ride with the Door County Trolly, giving free rides all day long.  You won’t have the hassel of finding parking, just walk next door to our neighbors Fine Line Designs and hop on the trolly, they’ll be going back and forth till 5 pm.

Our smiling front desk staff will be happy to hook you up with a schedule of events and answer any questions you might have.
