The Door Peninsula has now officially entered into September. The roads have quieted down and the air has a lighter quality to it. It is a beautiful time of year to be sure. There are many ways to enjoy Door County in September, so here are a few tips.
1) Make sure to visit the state parks. This time of year the parks are beautiful and they are slightly more peaceful. It is a great time to take a relaxing bike ride or go for a nice hike.
2) Make a point to go see a play. American Folklore Theater and Peninsula Players both offer great entertainment. Both locations have indoor performance areas, which is great for one of the cooler evenings.
3) Visit all your favorite shops (or discover your favorite shop). It’s a great time to browse and take your time without having to deal with big crowds.
4) RELAX! The great part about September is there is no need to rush!
We would love to have you come stay with us at High Point Inn this September, we will try to make it as relaxing as possible for you!

Door County has its own unique flavor, and one of the best ways to experience this is to visit the local farmers market. On Saturdays in Sister Bay at the Corner of the Past Museum there is a farmers market where locals are able to sell produce and other fresh items.
The farmers market is a great way to see what is grown on the Door Peninsula, and to meet some local residents. The Farmers Market also has featured guests. This weekend Jeanne Aurelius of Clay Bay Pottery will be there and the following weekend there will be Native American flutes with Mike Farmer.
Once you have some local produce you can come back and relax at High Point Inn and cook up a nice meal in your kitchen, then enjoy the flavors on your own private patio!

From High Point Inn here in Door County it is just a short drive south to Fish Creek. Fish Creek offers a little more hustle and bustle, which provides a great atmosphere for walking, shopping and people watching.
On a warm evening it is nice to park the car on the north side of town and walk to the restaurants and shops of downtown Fish Creek. (The sidewalks are even lined with orange and yellow marigolds.) The shops are conveniently open later and there is also a great variety to choose from.
Fish Creek also has some great places to sit out and have a nice relaxing beverage or dinner. The other evening I visited The Cookery, which has a great wine bar upstairs and full restaurant downstairs. The wine bar offers appetizers and a beautiful birds eye view of the water and the sidewalks.
If you get tired of walking there is also a pedicab service in Fish Creek. Peninsula Pedicabs is just a phone call away for a nice ride through town or back to your car.
An evening in Fish Creek makes for an eventful night, especially at this time of year. Come join us while the evenings are still warm!

Here at High Point Inn we are ready for Cherry season. Near by there is a small cherry orchard and on the drive in today I noticed that they have turned a nice shade of red.
Door County is known for its cherries. Near by is Seaquist Orchards, which actually processes 2/3 of Wisconsin’s cherries. All over the county you can find various sizes of cherry orchards.
Cherries can be purchased in many locations throughout the county, but one of the best ways to get your cherries is to pick them yourself. Many farm markets offer this opportunity to get right in the orchard and pick out your own. Of course, there are other ways to get your Door County cherries, mainly in the form of freshly baked pies and other baked goods.
Come join us at High Point Inn while the picking is good! You could even bake a fresh Door County cherry pie in your own suite!

The summer season officially starts this coming weekend for all of Door County and Ephraim is kicking it off with a weekend long festival. Fyr Bal in Ephraim is a long time tradition; it is a celebration of the beginning of summer and there is a lot to do!
Ephraim will be busy with walking tours, music, arts and crafts and food tents on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Friday is a quieter day of the festival with walking tours and ending with a peaceful midsummer’s music festival by Hardy Gallery on Anderson Dock.
Saturday is full of events complete with a regatta presented by the Ephraim Yacht Club, a raffle, a cakewalk and food all day. The celebration carries on into the evening with a traditional fish boil and more music. Then at 8:30 the multiple bonfires lined up along the water are lit creating an impressive image. Finally to end the day fireworks are set off over the harbor at sunset.
Sunday the celebration will continue with more arts and crafts, music, food and a special visit from Bucky the Badger. The festival then winds down in the evening with a family sing-along at the village hall.
Come visit us in Ephraim at High Point Inn to celebrate the beginning of summer! The whole village will be full of excitement and fun!

When rain clouds drift over the peninsula it can put a damper on many of Door County’s favorite outdoor activities. However, there are also some positive aspects to the slightly dreary weather that sometimes finds us. Here are a few things to think about next time rain visits you in Door County.
1) One can shop guilt free (to a certain extent). While browsing the many shops there is no need to worry about missing the great outdoors.
2) There is now more time to visit Door County’s art galleries and museums.
3) Rain makes for a nice relaxing indoor atmosphere. High Point Inn’s hot tub and pool provide a nice place to relax while watching the weather outside.
4) After the rain clears the county will become even greener, the birds will begin to sing and everything will feel refreshed.
5) Once and a while the rain will also bring with it a rainbow or two. Spotting a rainbow over one of Door County’s beautiful landscapes never loses its charm.
Whether it is raining or the sun is shining Door County is a great place to visit, so come stay with us at High Point Inn (rain or shine!)

Here is an idea for a gorgeous road trip for anyone who thinks winter has little to offer. Jump in your car and head to the beautiful village of Ephraim in Door County, Wisconsin. When you are just north of Sturgeon Bay take the very picturesque Hwy. 42 route to northern Door. Along the way you will pass through Carlsville home to several fine restaurants and shops. Next you will pass through the village of Egg Harbor, a great place to pull over and explore - even in winter! Call ahead to the Main Street Market and pick up a basket of luscious cheeses, fruits, and wines, perfect for your final destination.
Seven minutes out of Egg Harbor is the drive-by destination of Juddville. Though small, Juddville boasts several art galleries, a restaurant and coming soon - a chiropractic practice! As you head towards Ephraim, Fish Creek is the next scenic village and offers year round visitors the chance to shop and eat at several distinctive restaurants. Hide Side Leather and On Deck Sportswear are open in winter and are worth a visit.
Finally. Ephraim is near. As you approach the village from the south, you pass by the outstanding golf course at Peninsula State Park on your left. Your vehicle will descend a slight hill and before you will be the beauty of Eagle Harbor, truly one of Door County’s most scenic sites. The view at night (see photo above) in winter is that of a charming historic village opening its arms to all who pass through. You will not find most businesses open during the winter months, but the village hall in the center of town features sing-a-longs on Sundays that reminds you music can be a participation sport for the masses!
Drive through Ephraim-proper and you will find yourself in North Ephraim a tree-lined drive past galleries and shops that lead you to your final destination…the High Point Inn. Unpack your car, walk through the door and you will experience for yourself why our resort boasts a high rate of return for previous guests. Our facilities and our staff will make your winter getaway to the Door peninsula one to remember.
Ready for a road trip now? Call us at 920-854-9773 or email and we will help you plan the perfect winter vacation in our quaint Door County setting.

Paulson's Mill Road Cafe at Green Gables
Marc and Judy Paulson welcome you!
Some guests of the county might remember the first Mill Road Café which we operated in Sister Bay at the Walkway Shops from 1984 – 86. After 20 years of business in Ephraim at the Old Orchard Inn and Windflower Gifts, we’re once again serving food to friends and guests at our new Mill Road Café, located at the Green Gables Shops in Ephraim.
Many of the recipes we were famous for are now being served in our cozy and comfortable new space. Marc makes excellent home-made soups, gourmet salads, and terrific deli and specialty sandwiches. For breakfast you can enjoy Judy’s homemade sour cream coffee cake, muffins or Café granola, as well as New York bagels. Paulsons have always been famous for their quiche. It’s made with a hand-rolled all-butter crust, and filled with fresh ingredients and a rich egg custard. Guests can eat in the dining area which boasts a TV for sports fans and free wireless internet. Or they can sit outside on Green Gables’ beautiful garden patio.
The Mill Road Café is proud to feature Alterra coffee, roasted and blended in Milwaukee. The Café has a complete coffee bar, with espresso, cappuccino, and latte drinks, as well as icy-blended coffee frappes and fresh fruit smoothies.
Windflower Gallery and Gifts is located within the Café space. Our shop features Ephraim Faience Pottery, hand thrown and glazed in the Arts-and-Crafts tradition. We also display and sell the photography of local artist Daniel Anderson, including many of his unique Door County color prints. You can also find a piece of lovely jewelry, a greeting card for every occasion, Woods of Windsor toiletries, and much more.
Come join us for lunch or a latte. Stay for the conversation, browse through the shop, and stroll through Green Gables’ award-winning flower gardens. We’ll be delighted to see you!
